Currently, the leather available is from African elephants.
It is characterized by large folds and wrinkles that vary by area, and upon closer inspection, a finely granular, raised grain (surface).
The luster increases with use, and the thick elephant leather has a substantial feel.
By skiving only the edges diagonally, we achieve a beautiful edge surface that integrates with the horse naked leather, while still preserving the substantial feel of the elephant leather.


-Horse Naked Leather BLACK VINTAGE-
Commissioned from Shinki Hikaku, whose philosophy is to manage all processes from tanning, dyeing, to finishing in-house.
Recognized globally for their 100% vegetable-tanned pit-tanned leather, based on a history, love, and pride for horse leather.
Even in modern times where efficiency is prioritized, they continue the tradition of pit-tanned horse naked leather, which takes the longest time.
Please enjoy the firm yet flexible texture, the beautifully polished edges, and the increasing depth of luster with use, all characteristic of pit-tanned horse naked leather.

The Art of Dyeing
Without soaking the dye into the core of the horse naked leather, the base color is dyed in a brown tone, and then a translucent black color is applied over it. This complex dyeing technique creates the unique shade of this Black Vintage.

The Art of Finishing
After achieving a thick luster through glazing, a揉み加工 (crumpling process) is performed to create a wrinkled and whitened appearance.
This crumpling process brings out a richer expression of the grain surface, due to differences in fiber quality depending on the area.

Horse naked leather Black Vintage, incorporating the wonderful inherent qualities of horse naked leather and the unstinting techniques of Shinki Hikaku, who have long conversed with horse leather.
Each item is meticulously crafted to standards established with the aim of maximizing the potential of this horse naked leather.
