Since its establishment, Shinki Hikaku has succeeded in producing its world-renowned cordovan through over 40 years of research and cultivation of technology, and continues to do so today.
Shinki Hikaku's cordovan is horse leather that is transported by sea from Europe, undergoes a long maturation and tanning period, then the dense fiber layer found only in the horse's hindquarters is shaved from the back, and then meticulously finished over a total of 10 months through further maturation and drying.

For this MATTE BLACK, we intentionally requested to omit the final finishing process, leaving it with a matte texture.
We produced it with the desire for users to enjoy the gradual increase in luster as they use it.

The Art of Dyeing
The base color is dyed a vibrant blue, then a translucent dark blue hue is applied, and finally paraffin is permeated using heat.
This complex three-layer dyeing and finishing process creates the blue vintage color.

The Art of Finishing
After achieving a thick luster through glazing, a揉み (momi) process is performed to create wrinkles and a whitish appearance.
The揉み (momi) process further accentuates the varied grain expressions resulting from differences in fiber quality across different parts of the leather.
