Commissioned to Shinki Hikaku, whose philosophy is to manage all processes from tanning, dyeing, to finishing in-house.
Recognized worldwide for its 100% vegetable-tanned pit-tanned leather, rooted in a history, love, and pride for horsehide.
Even in modern times where efficiency is prioritized, Shinki Hikaku continues to employ the time-consuming pit tanning method for horse naked leather.
Please savor the firm yet flexible feel, the lustrous edge polished without special treatment, and the deepening sheen with use, all inherent in pit-tanned horse naked leather.

The Art of Dyeing
The base color of the horse naked leather is dyed in a brownish hue without allowing the dye to penetrate to the core, and then a translucent black is dyed over it. This complex dyeing process creates the unique color of Black Vintage.

The Art of Finishing
After achieving a thick sheen through glazing, a揉み (momikomi) process is applied to create wrinkles and a whitish effect.
This momikomi process brings out a richer expression of the grain surface, due to differences in fiber quality across various parts of the leather.

Horse naked Black Vintage is created with the beautiful natural qualities of horse naked leather and the extensive techniques of Shinki Hikaku, who have long engaged with horsehide.
