-Bass Leather-
Our efforts with bass leather are also an endeavor to deepen understanding of leather.
For those of us in the leather industry, our understanding begins with bringing life back to leather.
“Not wasting the life given as meat”
is the first lesson in the leather industry.
【From Shinki Hikaku's History】
2015: Started practical testing of modern tuna and black bass leather
2017: Successfully commercialized modern tuna and black bass leather
As described, bass leather was completed after approximately two years of development.
It continues to evolve even now, with dyes developed from aquatic plants harvested from Lake Biwa.
"Lake Biwa aquatic plant-dyed bass leather" is also being developed.
(*The bass leather in this instance is dyed with conventional dyes.)
The black bass from Lake Biwa are captured under the guise of extermination, but fortunately they are eaten.
However, parts that cannot be eaten, such as the skin, were typically used as fertilizer or discarded.
We learned that Shinki Hikaku was transforming the skins of these black bass into leather.
As fellow participants in the leather industry, we wanted to raise awareness about the leather of Lake Biwa black bass, a "by-product of life," and the desire to "let them swim in the water once more" reached Shinki Hikaku, leading to the realization of a leather lure.
Until now, we could only watch as our beloved bass were culled.
By making effective use of them instead of just culling,
we hope to bring about a small change, and so we release the bass leather lure.
-Features of Leather Lures-
By adjusting the weight according to the reel's retrieve speed, the lure's balance becomes less likely to be disrupted.
Depending on water temperature and quality changes with the seasons, and the degree of water absorption, it may float or sink, allowing you to notice changes in the field's water.
-Storage and Maintenance of Leather Lures-
・Normally, store in a dry condition.
・After fishing, dry in a well-ventilated area.
・When drying the lure by laying it down, place newspaper or similar underneath to remove moisture and dry both sides.
・It is recommended to dry the lure suspended or in a way that it doesn't touch anything (this helps prevent mold, etc.).
・For tackle cases, we recommend drilling ventilation holes (this helps prevent mold, etc.).
