For the 2026 TEST SAMPLE,
we are actively adopting wax-finished horsehide with a brown core for the leather,
and darl plating for the metal parts.

The combination of brown-core horsehide + darl-plated metal fittings will be
named and developed as the -GB Specification- (Germanic Bronze Specification).


The origin of darl plating is said to come from the English word "Dark" or its dark hue, "Darl."

Historically, darl plating has had various color variations, and
it was widely used in the Japanese furniture industry in the 1960s and 70s as a decorative finish with a luxurious feel.

In its manufacturing method, a thin layer of black plating is applied to a brass or copper base.
When new, the finish is not just black; it has subtle gradations due to color variations and light.
As it is used, the metal parts also develop a brown core-like texture, which is a characteristic of darl plating.


Among the various shades of darl plating,
there is a color named Germanic Bronze.

For the 2026 TEST SAMPLE,

Since 2025, we have been working on a new brown-core horsehide.
Challenging the transition from "vintage" to "antique" feel.
A black that exudes an antique feel with the base subtly showing through.
Brown-core black continues to evolve.

The -GB specification- was born because we created this horsehide.

What kind of leather is horsehide, and how can we maximize its wonderful qualities?
These past few years, including our previous experiences, have taught us so much.
Different tailoring methods can create a variety of textures.
Experience the versatile horsehide leather.

Shinki Hikaku's horsehide is [delicate yet strong, and versatile].
These conflicting elements are the true essence of horsehide.
The fibers are very fine, and the tensile strength of the grain side far surpasses that of cowhide.
The finish offers a wide range of changes in appearance and texture.
I feel it is a special leather that is resistant to scratches due to its strong tensile strength and flexibility.

The -GB specification- uses original brass rings with darl plating.
The Excella zippers are black.
The "double brown core" of horsehide and darl plating defines the [GB specification].

Puff-up tailoring that seeks "tactile feel" in the leather.
The surface of MORAY has a finish that combines an antique feel and luxury, eliminating wrinkles.
The horsehide leather in the "window frame" created by the puff-up tailoring and the main body's horsehide leather are the same.
Depending on the tailoring, even the same leather can create completely different appearances, allowing you to feel the difference in texture.
The edges are black, and the stitching is charcoal-colored.
This specification further enhances the three-dimensional feel of the puff-up tailoring.



The interior retains its wrinkled finish.
Though all made from the same horsehide, it can show such a variety of expressions.
