wax-finished brown core horse hide as the leather base and
Darl plating for the metal parts.
We will be calling this combination of brown core horse hide + Darl plated metal fittings
"- GB Specification -" (Germanic Bronze Specification) and developing it.
The origin of Darl plating is said to come from the English word "Dark" or its dark hue "Darl."
Historically, Darl had various color variations and became widely popular as a luxurious decorative finish in Japan's furniture industry from the 1960s to the 1970s.
The manufacturing method involves plating a thin layer of black onto a brass or copper base.
When new, the finish is not just black, but creates subtle gradations with color unevenness and light.
As it is used, the metal parts also develop a brown core-like texture, which is a characteristic of Darl plating.
Among the various shades of Darl plating, there is a color called
Germanic Bronze.
