-WHALE LEATHER-
Even our "Night Shift Manager" had never known of or seen this type of leather before.
That is [Whale Leather].
A brushed surface like nubuck, with a soft, fluffy texture.
A completely new leather experience.

Whales are considered a blessing from the sea for Japanese people, with nothing going to waste. They have long been a familiar source of valuable protein.
Japanese people have traditionally utilized every part of the whale, from its oil and meat to its bones and baleen plates, without discarding anything.
Whale skin is eaten raw or blanched.
Japanese whale cuisine, which uses every part from the skin to the internal organs as food, is a unique food culture unlike any other in the world.
Therefore, it is believed that parts of the whale that cannot be eaten were distributed as leather.

In 1982, the IWC (International Whaling Commission) resolved to impose a moratorium on commercial whaling, which Japan accepted in 1988.
Consequently, whale cuisine, once a common part of Japanese food culture, transformed from an everyday food to a precious one.
It is believed that whale leather also became a rare material seldom seen.
(*In June 2019, Japan withdrew from the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling and resumed commercial whaling of large whale species in July of the same year.)

It is now common knowledge that "leather is a byproduct of food," and no animal's life is taken solely for its leather.

The fundamental principle of the leather industry is "to not waste the lives given for human consumption."
In accordance with this spirit, we are releasing this rare whale leather as a middle wallet.

Since [Whale Leather] has not been generally distributed, we are unsure if it will be accepted by everyone.
It is also unknown if value will be found in it.
This is our company's first endeavor, and we hope you will pick it up and experience it for yourselves.


-HORSE NUME BLACK VINTAGE-
Entrusted to Shinki Hikaku, whose philosophy is to manage all processes from tanning, dyeing, to finishing in-house.
Recognized worldwide for their history, love, and pride in horse leather, they use 100% vegetable-tanned pit tanning.
Even in modern times where efficiency is prioritized, they continue the pit tanning of horse Nume, which is the most time-consuming process.
Please enjoy the firm yet flexible feel, the lustrous edges polished raw, and the deepening sheen with use, all inherent in pit-tanned horse Nume.

The exquisite craftsmanship of dyeing
The complex dyeing process that creates the color of this Black Vintage involves dyeing the core of the horse Nume with a brown base color without fully permeating it with dye, and then applying a translucent black dye over it.

The exquisite craftsmanship of finishing
After achieving a thick luster through glazing, a揉み加工 (crumpling process) is applied to create a wrinkled and whitened appearance.
This crumpling process brings out a richer expression on the grain surface, due to differences in fiber quality depending on the area.

＊The horse Nume Black Vintage used for the MW-22 HW-BKV has a stronger wrinkled and whitened finish compared to other Black Vintage products.
It was crafted to express an even deeper vintage feel in texture and color.


We produce each item individually based on our manufacturing standards, aiming to maximize the wonderful characteristics of horse Nume and the techniques of Shinki Hikaku, who have long conversed with horse leather, poured into the horse Nume Black Vintage.
