Commissioned from Shinki Hikaku, a company whose philosophy is to manage all processes from tanning to dyeing and finishing in-house.
Recognized worldwide for its history, love, and pride for horse leather, it is 100% vegetable-tanned pit leather.
Even in an age where efficiency is prioritized, they continue the tradition of pit tanning for horse naked leather, which is the most time-consuming process.
Please enjoy the firm yet flexible texture, the lustrous polished edges, and the deepening sheen with use, all inherent in pit-tanned horse naked leather.

The Art of Dyeing
The base color of the horse naked leather is dyed brown without penetrating the core with dye, and then a translucent black dye is applied over it. This complex dyeing process creates the unique hue of this Black Vintage.

The Art of Finishing
After achieving a thick, glossy finish through glazing, a揉み加工 (momi-kako, crumpling process) is applied to create a wrinkled and whitish appearance.
The momi-kako process brings out a richer expression of the grain surface due to differences in fiber quality in different areas.

Currently, Shinki Hikaku is the only company in the world that consistently produces only horse leather and is capable of manufacturing cordovan. Since its establishment, Shinki Hikaku has succeeded in producing its world-renowned cordovan through over 40 years of research and technical refinement. Shinki Hikaku's cordovan is horse leather that is transported by sea from Europe, undergoes long periods of aging and tanning, and then has the dense fiber layer, which exists only in the rump of the horse, shaved from the back. It then goes through further aging, drying, and other time-consuming processes, taking a total of 10 months to complete.
