-WHALE LEATHER-
This is a leather that even the "Night Shift Manager" had never known existed or seen before.
It is [Whale Leather].
A napped surface like nubuck, a soft and fluffy texture.
Everything about this leather is a new experience.

Whales have always been a familiar and precious source of protein and seafood for Japanese people, so much so that it is said no part of them goes to waste.
Japanese people have used whales without discarding anything, from their oil and meat to their bones and baleen.
Whale skin is eaten raw or blanched.
Japanese whale cuisine, which uses the skin and even the internal organs as food, is a unique food culture unparalleled in the world.
Therefore, it is believed that parts of the whale that could not be eaten circulated as leather.

In 1982, the IWC (International Whaling Commission) resolved to temporarily suspend commercial whaling, and Japan accepted this resolution in 1988.
Whale cuisine, which was once a common food in Japan, became a rare delicacy.
As a result, whale leather also became a rare leather rarely seen.
(Note: In June 2019, Japan withdrew from the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, and commercial whaling targeting large whales resumed in July of the same year.)

It is now common knowledge that "leather is a byproduct of food," and no animal lives are taken solely for leather.

The fundamental principle of the leather industry is "not to waste the lives given for human food."
In accordance with this spirit, we are releasing this rare whale leather as a middle wallet.

Since [whale leather] was not generally distributed, we do not know if it will be accepted by everyone.
Whether value will be found in it is also unknown.
This is our first attempt, and we would be delighted if you could hold it in your hands and experience it.

-Horse Naked Leather BLACK VINTAGE-
Commissioned to Shinki Hikaku, whose philosophy is to manage all processes from tanning, dyeing, and finishing in-house.
Pit tanning with 100% vegetable tannin, recognized worldwide, based on their history, love, and pride for horse leather.
Even in modern times where efficiency is prioritized, they continue to use pit tanning, which takes the longest time, for horse naked leather.
Please enjoy the firm yet flexible texture inherent in pit-tanned horse naked leather, the lustrous edges when polished, and the deepening sheen with use.

The subtlety of dyeing techniques
The base color is dyed a brownish hue without allowing the dye to penetrate the core of the horse naked leather, and then a translucent black is applied on top, creating the complex dyeing that produces the color of this Black Vintage.

The subtlety of finishing techniques
After achieving a thick sheen through glazing, a crumpling process is applied to create wrinkles and a whitish effect.
The crumpling process brings out the rich expressions of the grain due to differences in fiber quality depending on the part.

* The horse naked leather Black Vintage used for MW-12 HW-BKV has a finish with stronger wrinkles and whitish effects compared to the Black Vintage of other products.
It expresses a texture and color that further enhances the vintage feel.

Horse naked leather Black Vintage is made with the wonderful inherent qualities of horse naked leather and the abundant technology of Shinki Hikaku, who have a long history of working with horse leather.
Each piece is manufactured with production standards established to maximize the use of this horse naked leather.
